The answer to life's problems are not found in the absence of cognitive and emotional dissonance or anything else come to that but rather, in the presence of what is . . . . . . . . . . . . .
The question is the simple prerequisite to the answer!
One aspect of life's mysteries that I cover in my practice, is the prolific use we make of negative, vague and ambiguous language, in one's everyday language and self-talk. Whether we are talking to single or multiple persons (unless reading a script) or just to ourselves, the same illogical logic applies. For example, you ask someone "how are you?" they reply, "not too bad." This sounds like harmless banter and of course, logically you kind of know what you mean but the subconscious is not so logical, in fact, it is very illogical. It is that illogic that led to the saying, "think outside of the box!" But in and of itself, thinking out of the box is usually not sufficient because you use the same language patterns, logical style and thinking on the outside, as you do on the inside.
So, before you even attempt to fix things, be it inside or outside of the box; you first need to address the negative, vague and ambiguous style of thinking and behaving (both of which require the input of language to affect neural transmission). Some of this is delivered in my hypnosis sessions and some are within your conscious control. Essentially, you cannot build an effective and positive mindset when your neural code is under the influence of negative language patterns. This principally includes all forms of communication because they convert neural code into language and language into neural code. Evidence to support this is as simple as saying something really nice, pleasant or complementary to someone and observing their response and then saying something nasty, mean or vile to another and watching their response. Language engages with and influences the outcome of emotion, whichever direction it is aimed in. In some instances, you can say something nice etc. to someone and they will become suspicious, doubting or untrusting, this gives you a clue to their psyche!
So. the secret to a happy and successful life, lays in the presence of what you want; not the absence of what you do not want! While it may sound somewhat obvious and easy to achieve, experientially, I have found that it is anything but easy. Having asked the question, "what do you want?" when a client says they want to be happy, my next question is, "what is happiness?" At that point there is almost always silence, they know what they want but cannot define it; i.e. there is no narrative for happiness in the brain. The next challenge, I guess, is to discover their perception of happiness and the kinds of things that make them happy, usually, material things are at the forefront. So, the journey begins, using tried and tested methods, it's actually achievable to discover their inner wants and needs and often happens reasonablt quickly.
